Subtropical Hurricane Anda[]

Anda was formed from a Subtropical low off the coast of New Jersey. Marginal temperatures of 76 F allowed the Subtropical low to intensify, and the first depression of the season formed 250 miles northeast of New York. Even though waters were becoming cooler, the depression became Subtropical Storm Anda. Anda continued to intensify using an inflow current from Iceland, and later became Subtropical Hurricane Anda. Then, waters took their toll on Anda, weakening it back into a Storm. Anda became extratropical on January 11 and dissipated on the 12th.

A vigorous tropical low slid off the coast of Africa. With warm waters of 82 F, the low became Tropical Depression Two. The depression did not intensify greatly over the next day. Then, temperatures sparked to 85 F, and the depression became Tropical Storm Barnes. Barnes did not hesitate, and became a Category 1 hurricane a few hours later. An inflow turn to the north-northeast did not allow any more intensification. Approaching the East Coast, Barnes intensified into a Category 2 hurricane. Barnes continued to intensify, and became the first major hurricane of the season. Barnes peaked at 115 mph (185 km/h) and quickly weakened into a tropical storm. Barnes weakened into a depression before becoming extratropical.

Cordelia formed out of a low that entered the Gulf of Mexico from the Pacific Ocean. With the warm waters of the Eddy, the low rapidly intensified into Hurricane Cordelia, skipping both depression AND storm status. The intensification process was halted, when Cordelia entered the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, and so the peak ended up being 100 mph (155 km/h). The waters were 71 F, because of Barnes absorbing all of the heat, so Cordelia quickly weakened and died out in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean.
