The 2020 Pacific Hurricane Season was a near normal season. It featured 16 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 4 major hurricanes. Two of the storms, Douglas and Iselle, crossed into the Atlantic basin. The season did not feature a single storm forming in the Central Pacific.
A tropical wave came to the coast of Mexico in mid-July and slowly organized itself into Tropical Depression Four-E on July 18. The next day, Four-E was upgraded into Tropical Storm Douglas. As a Pacific storm, Douglas briefly reached hurricane status while it crossed over the Yucatan peninsula, before entering the Gulf of Mexico and rapidly intensifying into a Category 5 hurricane. Douglas would later make landfall in Alabama and affect the entire southeastern United States. Douglas would pass over the Atlanta area while still a strong hurricane, and would destroy SunTrust Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. Despite the damage the name Douglas was not retired.
Genevieve was a destructive storm that made landfall in the Baja California peninsula. Genevieve was the only retired name of the season. It was replaced with the name Gretchen for 2026.
Karina was a long-lived storm that nearly reached Category 5 intensity, but did not. Karina did not affect land and entered the Central Pacific basin. Karina came very close to entering the West Pacific basin but dissipated while located north of Hawaii.
