Hurricane Alberto[]

On January 1, an area of low pressure spawned TD 1. It continued through Trinidad before being upgraded south of Haiti the next day to tropical storm Alberto. Alberto strengthened into a hurricane on January 4 before making landfall in Belize the same day. Alberto emerged into the Bay of Campeche before strengthening into a category 2 hurricane on January 6. It made landfall in Texas the same day. It died out in Kansas on January 8.

On January 11, the tail end of the cold front that turned Alberto northwest stalled over the gulf and spawned Tropical Depression 2. It strengthened into Tropical Storm Beryl, and moved northeast. On January 13, it made landfall in Florida. It exited near Savannah and restrengthed to a tropical storm, before making landfall in North Carolina on January 15. It dissipated in New York the following day.

Hurricane Chris[]

A tropical wave exited Africa on January 16, spawning a tropical depression. The following day it was upgraded to tropical storm Chris. Chris continued through the atlantic without strengthening much, and passed through the windwards as a strong tropical storm. On January 22, Chris strengthened into a hurricane. In the northwest Caribbean, Chris became a major hurricane. On January 25, Chris became a category 5 in the gulf, and turned northeast. Chris turned towards Tampa, and made landfall at peak strength on January 28. Chris passed through the state, weakaned, and emerged as a category 2. It then began to become extratropical on January 29, and became completly non tropical on January 31.
