The 2187 Atlantic hurricane season was a moderately active season, in which 21 named storms, 15 hurricanes and 7 major hurricanes were able to develop. Though the official season had been extended to run from My 1 to December 31, it ran from when Tropical Depression 01L formed on April 19, to when Tropical Storm Wilma dissipated on December 6. Notable storms included Tropical Depression 01L, which impacted Cuba with severe flooding, and Hurricane Lola, which is the costliest natural data on record to date, costing $5 billion of the seasons damage, and 437 deaths in total, and is also the most powerful tropical cyclone ever recorded.
