The 2018 Atlantic hurricane season was a hyperactive, deadly and costly season which produced 23 depressions, of which 20 were named, 9 hurricanes, and 6 major hurricanes, including three Category 5 storms, making it the only season to contain more than two Category 5 hurricanes with 2005. The season began on January 17 with Alberto's early formation, and it ended on November 17 with Valerie's dissipation.

Retirement

In spring of 2019, due to extensive damage and deaths, the names Florence, Helene, Michael, Sara and Valerie were officially retired, and will never be used again in the Atlantic basin. They were replaced by Fanny, Helma, Marcel, Shauna and Veronique for the 2024 season.
