The 2017-18 South Atlantic cyclone season was an average season by the number of total storms and a slightly below avarage by the number of total hurricanes and major hurricanes. A total of 13 tropical depressions formed, of which 12 became tropical storms, 6 became hurricanes, and 3 reached major hurricane status (C3+ on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale). The season officially began on November 01, 2017, and ended on April 30, 2018.

Although most of the season systems remained at sea it still was one of the deadliest and most expensive seasons to date, with more than 90% of the seasons damages and fatalities caused by hurricanes Isabela and Luciana alone.

Storm names[]

The following names were used to name tropical cyclones in the South Atlantic during 2017-18. Unused names are marked in gray.

Because of the incredible damage hurricanes 'Isabela' and 'Luciana' did to Brazil both storm names will be retired and will never be used for another South Atlantic tropical cyclone ever again. Their replacements are Isaura and Luana, for use in 2022-23, as the basin name list rotates every 5 years.
