Caused a total of over $56 billion and 98 deaths with areas such as Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Cuba and Louisiana receiving the worst. Earl brushed Puerto Rico as a category three (leaving behind $2 billion and 24 deaths), struck Jamaica as category four ($19 billion and 31 deaths), struck Cuba as category three ($14 billion and 11 deaths) then finally hit Louisiana as a lower end category three ($21 billion and 29 deaths from a destructive storm surge). An additional 3 deaths was reported elsewhere (2 in the Florida Keys, 1 in Texas).

Tropical storm force winds were spread into South Texas, where an additional $98 million in damage and 2 deaths had occurred. A total of 74 deaths and $9.4 billion USD had been reported.
