Retirement

Starting in the 2006 Atlantic Hurricane Season, the usage of the Greek Alphabet was abolished and replaced with two auxiliary lists rotating between odd and even years plus the addition of X, Y, and Z to the primary lists. This is the first season to use the auxiliary list.

In the spring of 2010, the names Fabian and Rose were retired from the primary list by the WMO and will never be used again to name any Atlantic Hurricanes. They were replaced with Fred and Ruby respectively for 2015.
