The 1892 South Atlantic Hurricane Season was the most active ever, featuring a whopping 17 storms. It was the most active in the entire history. ALL THE NAMES ARE MADE UP, IF IT CONTAINS SOMETHING OFFENSIVE, WE DID NOT SEARCH.

DurationJanuary 1 – January 6
Peak intensity95 km/h (60 mph) (1-min) 990 hPa (mbar)

A extratropical storm had formed 418 miles east of Rio de Janeiro, in a rare location on January 1. Due to warm SST's and low wind shear, the storm cut off from the storm and gained subtropical characteristics, as said by several buoys. The NHC and the SAB started tracking the low as "SL0". The storm gained tropical storm force winds, gaining the name "Acata" by the CPTEC. Convection built and it almost became a tropical storm, however convection was too far for it to become tropical. The storm on January 4 gained 60 mph winds and peaked at that intensity. It then turned northwest and made landfall in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Effects from the storm were noted as west as Brasilia. The storm caused 46 million $ (150 million R$) in damage, damaged 127 buildings, caused a death of a 40 year old man which drowned beacuse of the storm surge and waves and caused 16 injuries, half of these beacuse of storm surge. The name "Acata" was retired and was replaced with "Andreia".

Major Hurricane Bandala[]

Peak intensityWinds not specified

In January 9th, a unusually strong disturbance developed just south of the equator. It was attached to the ITCZ. On January 10th, it was recognized by buoys and was classified by the NHC and CPTEC as "Low SL91". The low rapidly gained a closed circulation and already had sustained winds of 70 mph, making it Tropical Storm "Bandala". The storm disattached from the ITCZ and went southwest, entering more favorable environments, and it quickly intensified into a 90 mph hurricane. An eye cleared out and by January 16th, the storm gained 115 mph winds and became a major hurricane in the South Atlantic, the first ever recorded, and the record remains the same for over 500 years.
